Val Kilmer’s ex-wife, Joanne Whalley, was spotted consoling their daughter, Mercedes, on Wednesday morning after the “Top Gun” actor died on Tuesday night.
While standing outside of the 33-year-old’s West Hollywood, Calif., home, Whalley and Mercedes were seen carrying bags and hugging.
The 63-year-old wore a burgundy cardigan and a pair of boots. Her daughter wore a shorter black coat and a pair of colorful Ugg boots.
Kilmer died at his Los Angeles home after a bout with pneumonia, his daughter confirmed. He was 65.
Prior to the actor’s death, he struggled with a six-year battle with throat cancer after being diagnosed in 2015.
The condition had affected his ability to speak due to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which required two tracheotomies.
In 2021, he declared he was cancer-free.
Kilmer and Whalley met in 1986 on the set of “Willow.” They were married from 1988 until their divorce in 1996.
In addition to Mercedes, whom they welcomed in 1991, the exes also shared son Jack, 29.
In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, the actor revealed that he “learned he was getting a divorce while watching CNN in a hotel room.”
“It was no fun,” the actor recalled of the experience at the time.
Kilmer called his divorce “the second most expensive in New Mexico,” saying that it happened “only two months after the birth of their second child.”
