Vance Secret Service Agent Under Investigation Over Alleged Security Breach

The Secret Service is investigating a member of Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail for allegedly compromising operational and information security, a spokesperson told the Daily Caller.

MSNOW previously reported complaints within the Vance’s protective detail about unexpected travel and “inappropriate or even unprecedented use” of government resources. The article cited “Secret Service sources.” After the outlet reported the leaked plans of Vance’s trip to a military golf course, the trip was canceled, according to the article. Now, the Secret Service is investigating a member of Vance’s detail for an alleged security breach and potential criminal inquiry, the Caller learned. “A member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division is the subject of an administrative investigation, and potential criminal inquiry, involving allegations of compromising operational and information security,” Anthony Guglielmi, U.S. Secret Service Chief of Communications, told the Caller in a statement.

“While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is unequivocal: any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated,” he added.

The Vice President’s office declined to comment and referred the Caller to the Secret Service.

The MSNOW article focused on a recently planned trip by Vance and his son to go to Joint Base Andrews for a golf lesson. Agents were allegedly angry over the “inappropriate or even unprecedented use” of government resources, the outlet reported.

“[T]he Secret Service staff’s complaints about a planned chopper ride for an elementary school student reflects a building morale problem inside the team of agents assigned to shield Vance and his young family, according to the two people and another person familiar with the agents’ frustration,” the MSNOW article states of the trip that was ultimately canceled due to weather.

An administration official told the Caller that the journey from the Naval Observatory to Joint Base Andrews is the most frequent and routine flight for Marine Two and that for the planned trip to the golf course, it was arranged so it would not impact the public. The base is secure and a public course would cause it to partially close and a motorcade would require local resources and interrupt the public’s travel, the official said.

“That is RIDICULOUS,” one individual with knowledge of the planned golf trip said to MSNOW. “Pence and Harris never pulled anything like that.”

“They change everything,” another source told the outlet regarding the Vice President’s shifting schedule. “They don’t stick to their schedules, and that costs shit-tons of taxpayer money.”

The vice president and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, have publicly addressed trying to balance raising a young family while also being protected by the Secret Service. The administration official told the Caller that previous presidents and vice presidents have, for the most part, not had young children while in office. Vance has also taken more of a diplomatic and active role in the administration, which has led to swift schedule changes and heightened demands on the detail, the official added.

“A motorcade just shuts down streets, right? It means sometimes people can’t get into Mass when they arrive. It means that you have people trickling in after the start because they’re being put through magnetometers, and so we try, especially, we try with timing of Mass and location and everything to mitigate all of these discomforts for all the other people who are just trying to live their lives,” the second lady said in an interview with CBS News.
