UNIVERSAL CITY, CA — Fans of the popular animated Christian children's series were excited by the promise of new adventures, as the makers of VeggieTales announced the introduction of a new evil villain character named "Matt Squash."

VeggieTales, which originated in 1993 and proved to be a big hit with kids over the years, retelling classic Bible stories with computer-animated talking vegetables, will now feature beloved characters Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber facing off against the tyrannical schemes of bespectacled and bushy-bearded cultural commentator and documentary filmmaker Matt Squash.

"He's the greatest threat our vegetable heroes have ever faced," said a spokesperson for Big Idea Entertainment, which produces VeggieTales. "We wanted to update the series to feature new challenges that are ripped from today's headlines. What better way to introduce VeggieTales to a modern audience than to feature a villain who insists on engaging in an endless culture war while Bob and Larry just want to stay out of it and let society continue to descend into degeneracy?"

Sources said the new character would menace the series' protagonists by questioning why they refuse to fight to preserve decency and Christian values in the world around them. "Matt Squash is a terrifying villain," the spokesperson continued. "While he has produced popular documentaries like What Is A Watermelon? and its follow-up, Am I Radish?, Bob and Larry argue that he is not laying down and letting darkness spread like a true Christian should."

At publishing time, the producers of VeggieTales said any similarities Matt Squash may have with real-world personalities were purely coincidental.
