In an interview with Tasnim on Tuesday, Velayati said it comes as a surprise that Turkey’s policies on Syria have been adopted in the name of the Muslim Turkish people who have always had deep religious faith in defense of Islam.
He said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is an experienced individual in intelligence and foreign policy sectors, was expected to address a series of problems in Turkey’s foreign policy. “But we’d never imagine that Turkey, with a long Islamic history, may fall into a trap set by the US and Zionists (in Syria).”
Velayati said a group of Zionists had in the past century visited Ottoman Empire Abdulhamid, asking for the purchase of Palestine to let Jewish people settle in there, but the Turkish leader said it is impossible to dissect a person who is still alive.
Velayati also said, “The US, the Zionists and regional countries, including Arabs and non-Arabs, should bear in mind that the Islamic Republic of Iran will support the government of Syria to the very end.”
He noted that the supporters of Syria at present outnumber those in 2011, when the war broke out in the Arab country. “Apart from Iran, Russia, Lebanon’s Hezbollah –which is now stronger than ever-, Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi –which is a marvelous force-, the hero Houthis of Yemen, and the dear Palestinians are all united in supporting the territorial integrity of Syria and its incumbent government.”
Elsewhere, Velayati advised US President-elect Donald Trump to be aware that the outgoing administration of Democrats has failed to elevate the US’ policies in the world, has only fanned the flames across the world, and would only add fuel to the fire of wars across the globe instead of putting them out.
He reminded Trump that if he intends to act prudently during his new tenure, he will have to learn lessons from his first term in office and be sure that today’s circumstances in the world have become more challenging than his previous term.
No sovereign state would back out in the face of Trump’s intimidation and threats, Velayati added.
