Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese fell off a stage at a campaign event Thursday after giving a speech to miners.

Video of the incident shows the 62-year-old Albanese suddenly stumble and fall behind the stage as people take note of the incident. With the aid of those around him, the head of Australia’s government quickly recovers from his stumble and bounces back on stage to the applause of attendees.

The prime minister insisted he was okay afterward, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported. “I stepped back one step. I didn’t fall off the stage … just one leg went down, but I was sweet,” he said when addressing the incident, according to Reuters.

Albanese also responded to President Donald Trump’s tariffs Thursday. Australia was hit by a 10 percent tariff, the BBC reported.

“The (Trump) administration’s tariffs have no basis in logic and they go against the basis of our two nation’s partnership. This is not the act of a friend,” the prime minister insisted, Reuters reported. At the same time, Albanese ruled out reciprocal tariffs against the United States. (RELATED: Trump Administration Questions US-Funded Researchers Abroad For ‘Anti-American Beliefs’)

Albanese, along with his Australian Labor Party-led (ALP) government, is seeking re-election in a national election set for May 3. The ALP was voted into power in 2022. The prime minister called for the national election March 28. “Because of the strength and resilience that our people have shown, Australia is turning the corner. Now on 3 May, you choose the way forward,” he said, according to CNB.

The ALP and the Liberal-National Coalition (LNC) are locked into a competitive cycle, according to reports. The ALP’s projected share of the primary vote was 33 percent while the LNC’s was 37 percent, according to polling data from the newspaper The Australian obtained by Sky News. Newspoll data from February showed the ALP at 31 percent of the primary vote and the LNC at 39. A primary vote refers to the candidate an Australian voter chooses as his or her first choice from a list of candidates based on the country’s system of preferential voting.
