Chain-smoking golf star Charley Hull has made an astonishing $13k pledge to give up cigarettes in a shock announcement on social media.

Hull, whose habit of sparking up on the golf course has become notorious in recent years, promised to pay the huge five-figure sum to fellow player Ryan Evans if she fails to quit smoking over the next two months.

In a video on Instagram, the British golfer can be seen handing over a pack of cigarettes to Evans and betting him £10k ($13k) that she won't touch another one for the foreseeable future.

'Today, I've made the decision to stop smoking,' she says in the clip before turning to her playing partner and continuing, 'I'm going to do a £10,000 bet with you, I get no money in it.

'A £10,000 bet if I pick up a cigarette in the next two months I'll give you £10,000 and I'm shaking on that. Deal?'

After shaking hands with Evans, she then added: 'Okay... and you can chuck them in the bin for me.'

The Brit's tendency to spark up when playing golf has become famous in recent years

Hull has gone viral on social media for her tendency to smoke on the course, although a number of fans have urged her to quit the habit for the sake of her health.

Others, meanwhile, have become huge admirers of the maverick 28-year-old for competing in the sport in such unorthodox fashion.

One of those admirers is American president Donald Trump, who recently endorsed Hull despite his own opposition to tobacco.

After the golfer said she 'loves' him following the US presidential election in November, Trump shared a Fox News post which included Hull's quote on his Truth Social account.

Charley has frequently shown her support for the 78-year-old, even performing the famous arm-jerking dance moves that have become associated with him back in November.

Hull, the world's 10th-ranked player, has long-been tipped as a future star of the golfing world, playing in several amateur tournaments during her early teens and being a part of the European team that won the Solheim Cup in 2023.

She competed in the Curtis Cup - the amateur version of the Solheim Cup - when she was just 16, while she turned professional before her 17th birthday.
