Waitrose unveils new selection of spring sweet treats including a market-first heart-shaped Panettone

Waitrose has unveiled a market-first heart-shaped Cherry & Chocolate Panettone as part of its new spring range.

The speciality item is crafted in a third-generation family bakery in Piedmont, Italy, taking over 24 hours to create.


Seasonal bakery product developer at Waitrose, Serena Jackson, said: "We are proud to be bringing our customers innovation with a market-first Cherry and Chocolate Heart-shaped Panettone, which comes in its own beautiful, heart-shaped tin."

The heart-shaped Cherry & Chocolate Panettone is normally £15 but is currently available at an introductory price of £10 for Valentine's Day.

The retailer has introduced flower-shaped crumpets to their spring range too which are available for £1.50.

Senior brand development chef at Waitrose, Will Torrent, shared his serving suggestion: "With crumpet popularity showing no signs of slowing down, we've launched our Flower Crumpets which will undoubtedly raise a smile among all the food lovers.

"I love to serve mine hot, topped with our No.1 Heather Honey Smoked Scottish Salmon, smashed avocado and a poached egg."

The retailer's No1 Spring Afternoon Tea Selection features six mini cakes, including Daisy cakes with golden sponge and buttercream, St Clements cakes combining lemon sponge with orange buttercream, and Mini Raspberry Cakes.

Emilie Wolfman, trend innovation manager at Waitrose, noted: "As retro flavours make a strong comeback, we're seeing classics like the lemon drizzle flavour reimagined into new formats and sparking a wave of nostalgia for many."

Lemon drizzle scones will be entering Waitrose stores on February 19, priced at £2.

The Spring Afternoon Tea Selection will enter on the same day, priced at £7.

Shoppers can find all of the products announced in stores by the end of February

Other new offerings include Salted Caramel Truffles with fleur de sel caramel at £5 per 100g.

Belgian Heart-shaped Biscuits are also available at £6 for 165g.

Chocolate lovers can indulge in Milk Chocolate Hearts for £3.50.

From February 17, customers can also look forward to new additions including a Colomba Cake for £14, Lemon and Raspberry Torta at £8, and traditional Simnel Cake for £13.
