Seven Cornell fraternity members allegedly drugged a 20-year-old woman with ketamine and raped her over several hours while urging others to join, a new lawsuit claims.
The anonymous former student, identified in court papers as Jane Doe, sued the seven Chi Phi brothers, the university, the fraternity’s chapters, several sorority groups and a local bar this week in Manhattan Supreme Court, according to the Cornell Daily Sun. No criminal charges followed the incident, the Tompkins County District Attorney’s office told the New York Post.
The 101-page filing centers on a set of group-chat messages sent as the woman lay assaulted. One member wrote “free p—y” to a Snapchat group called “Chi Phi Actives” at 1:42 a.m., according to a screenshot filed with the court and reported by the Post. Another replied that it was “crazy work,” and a third wrote that others could “walk in and whip it out,” the filing states. The woman had been drinking at a sorority house, a nightclub and a second bar before she went alone to the fraternity house on Edgemoor Lane in Ithaca on Oct. 19, 2024, according to the Daily Sun. She turned down a defendant’s request for a threesome, then felt pressured into snorting ketamine for the first time, the suit claims. The attacks ran until roughly 5:45 the next morning, the filing states.

None of the seven accused men has answered the allegations, and none faces criminal counts. The defendants are Matthew Ingalls, Johnathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gillio Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris and Scott Kretzschmar, according to the Daily Sun.
Cornell later gave the accused a chance to “mitigate their conduct by submitting essays,” the suit alleges, though the university declined to confirm that account to the Post.
The school suspended the chapter and the students in November 2024 and called the reported behavior “abhorrent and cannot be tolerated within our community,” according to a statement from then-Interim President Michael Kotlikoff. A Title IX inquiry has since closed, while Ithaca police continue investigating, according to the Daily Sun.
“What happened to me was horrific and deeply disturbing,” the plaintiff told the Daily Sun.
