The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has written, directed, and starred in his own live-action adaptation of Resident Evil 7, bringing one of the horror game’s most memorable encounters to life.

The 19-minute fan film, titled Biohazard, sees Riggs take on the role of Ethan Winters, the protagonist of Capcom’s 2017 survival horror game. It’s set to arrive on YouTube on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, with the first trailer out now.

For those unfamiliar with Resident Evil 7, the game follows Ethan as he searches for his missing wife in Louisiana, only to find himself trapped in a nightmarish house occupied by a family infected with a mysterious substance.

Rather than attempting to squeeze the entire story into a short film, Riggs has focused on the infamous garage confrontation between Ethan and Jack Baker, the seemingly unkillable patriarch of the Baker family.

Riggs isn’t the only Walking Dead actor involved, as Jason Douglas, who also appeared as Tobin, plays Jack Baker, while Greg Nicotero, known for his special effects work on zombie series, supplied equipment for the production.

The filmmakers even transformed a former cigar factory in Tampa Bay into part of the Baker estate, relying heavily on physical sets, practical effects, and stunt work rather than CGI.

Chandler Riggs wants to work with Zach Cregger on Resident Evil movie

The project also comes shortly after Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie arrived in theaters in September, although Riggs had already begun working on his adaptation before that film was announced. Speaking to IGN, Riggs explained that he wanted to release his movie first, but it didn’t quite come together.

“We were in pre-production when the article came out that Zack Cregger was going to do his. I was like, ‘Oh man, all right, we got to get ours out first,’ he said. “We were trying to beat the clock and get it out about a month ago, but parts just didn’t align that way.”

He went on to mention that he’d love to make a feature-length Resident Evil 7 adaptation in the future. He’s also open to working with Cregger if the director ever returns to the franchise, adding: “Listen, my phone is open. Hit my line!”
