Walmart shoppers discovered a pair of colorful new breakfast breads that are already turning heads online, and they have so many questions.

The retail giant quietly added two new Bettergoods bread flavors: Ube Coconut Breakfast Bread and Lemon Huckleberry Breakfast Bread, both priced at $4.98 for a 14-ounce loaf.

And while the subtle purple swirl of the ube bread has become a social media talking point, it's the second flavor that sparked the biggest debate.

'These sound very interesting,' one Instagram user wrote, while another said they're 'curious to see what a huckleberry tastes like.'

A customer on Facebook had the same question: 'what is a huckleberry?'

Huckleberries are small, wild berries native to parts of the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountains. They look similar to blueberries but are generally more tart and sour, making them a popular ingredient in jams, pies and baked goods.

'This seasonal loaf combines the bright, citrusy flavor of real lemon with the unique sweetness of huckleberries for a deliciously balanced sweet and tart experience,' Walmart said of its new breakfast bread.

'Known for growing exclusively in mountain forests during the summer months, huckleberries make this loaf a truly special seasonal treat,' they added.

Another buyer who had already tried the loaf, revealed the mystery ingredient isn't quite as unfamiliar as shoppers might think.

'The ingredients have both blueberry and huckleberry,' the Reddit user said. 'I can sort of distinguish both, but if you've never had huckleberry, I can see how you only think blueberry.'

Meanwhile, Walmart's other new loaf has become impossible to ignore thanks to its vivid lavender color.

The Ube Coconut Breakfast Bread gets its eye-catching shade from ube, a purple yam widely used in Filipino desserts. Unlike sweet potatoes, ube has a subtly sweet flavor that's often described as a mix of vanilla, pistachio and coconut.

'The ube flavor is strong and comes through really well, with a nice coconut flavor and actual coconut flakes you can taste,' one review on Walmart's website said. 'I ate mine toasted and plain and loved it! I think this would also make amazing French toast.'

The loaves are the latest additions to Bettergoods, Walmart's own private-label food brand, launched in 2024. Under this label, the retailer sells hundreds of trend-forward products made to introduce shoppers to flavors they might not typically find.

That includes 'chef-inspired' Roasted Shishito Pepper and Garlic Wavy Potato Chips, Black Forest Cake Style Crispy Rice Bites and even a Cookies and Cream-flavored 'spread' with chocolate cookie pieces.

Most Bettergoods products sell for under $5, with the retailer positioning the line as an affordable way to try unique snack options.

'Today’s customers expect more from the private brands they purchase - they want affordable, quality products to elevate their overall food experience,' Walmart said at the time.

'The launch of Bettergoods delivers on that customer need in a meaningful way.

Earlier this year, Walmart unveiled a 'modern' version of its best-known private-label brand Great Value.

The redesign spanned almost 10,000 food and consumables items, making it the most extensive private brand update in Walmart’s history.

Founded in 1962 by Sam Walton in Rogers, Walmart has grown into the largest retailer in the US, operating more than 4,600 stores nationwide and serving millions of customers every week.
