Warframe paid tribute to a rival on its way out the door, and it did it with more elegance than most eulogies.

For nearly nine years, Destiny 2 and Warframe shared something unusual for competing games: a mutual respect, a lot of overlapping players, and the same unglamorous label of “the other looter shooter.”

On June 9, Bungie shipped Destiny 2’s final content update and stopped active development, closing out a chapter that had reshaped the live-service genre. As the gaming community mourned, Warframe’s creative director had an idea.

Warframe adds a Destiny 2 tribute mission on June 17

On June 10, Rebecca Ford posted on X that players would be able to run a special Alert mission on June 17 on Warframe’s Telesto node, titled “Make Their Own Fate.”

The name does double duty: Telesto is also the name of a beloved and notoriously buggy exotic weapon in Destiny 2, and the phrase echoes a line that runs through the Destiny franchise’s lore.

The tribute is characteristic of how Digital Extremes has handled the Destiny 2 shutdown. In an earlier a post on X, Ford wrote that “there is no Warframe without the legacy of Bungie games, tracing her own history with Bungie’s work back to playing Halo 3 at 16.

At the age of 16, me and my best friend (who gave me the name 'rebulast'), picked up our midnight release editions of Halo 3, sped home, told our parents it was important, and played more Halo than you could imagine.
