It seems Warzone devs Raven Software have sought to put the final nail in the coffin for gas plays, as they’ve given a big nerf to Stims and disabled Supply Boxes in the gas.

Gas plays have always been a thing in Warzone, with players using the encroaching out-of-bounds zone to escape hairy situations or pull off flanks, but thanks to Stims and other equipment, players can survive in the gas for a lot longer than intended.

The devs have made several changes to make it harder to sit in the gas for too long, but it’s still common in Ranked Play and competitive matches, with games often ending with a “Stim-off” — whoever can hoard the most supplies and survive in the gas the longest wins.

But that’s set to change to Season 4 Reloaded, as you can no longer use Supply Boxes deep in the gas, and Stims have received a big nerf.

Warzone devs nerf gas plays again in Season 4 Reloaded

The first major change the devs announced was disabling Supply Boxes “located deep within” in the gas. They said, “Looting deep in the gas was creating unintended gameplay patterns and disproportionately rewarding players who remained outside the playable area.”

The meaning of “deep within the gas” changes as the game goes on:

  • Circle 1: 40m (unchanged)
  • Circle 2: 30m
  • Circle 3 and later: 25m

“Dynamically scaling the grace distance better reflects the pace of each match phase and helps reduce excessive gas play during endgame scenarios,” explained the devs.

Another change I'm stoked about!

Gas plays remain a risky gamble and situational, but viable. Repositioning or catching enemies off guard is still possible. However, there needs to be a limit. This brings us closer to what we're aiming for. We'll monitor this closely! pic.twitter.com/UeSnTluXzf

However, the real kicker should be the nerf to Stims. Now, while in the gas, Stims’ health regeneration is reduced by 40%, meaning you’ll have to use almost twice the amount for the same effect.

“Stims were allowing players to survive in the gas for extended periods and enabling strategies that circumvented intended circle pressure,” they said. “Reducing their effectiveness while in the gas reinforces the importance of positioning while preserving their utility during combat.”

So, Stim supplies will be depleted much faster, and the chances of finding Munition Boxes or more Stims through Supply Boxes are drastically reduced.
