At least seven people have been injured in a horrific mass stabbing in Washington DC.
Metropolitan police said they received a call in the capital's northeast neighborhood near Gallaudet University for the deaf and hard of hearing at 3.22pm, and when they arrived at the scene they immediately provided life-saving measurements to the victims.
Four women and two men were then transported to a local hospital and were in stable condition as of Thursday night.
Meanwhile, one person has been arrested for the mass stabbing after he was found lying on the ground nearby. The knife he allegedly used in the attack was also found near the suspect, with apparent blood on it.
Police Chief Pamela Smith now says he was in an 'altered mental state from an unknown substance' when he stabbed himself and a woman he was with.
At that point, two people intervened to stop the assailant, and were also stabbed.
Among the victims was a grandmother, who one neighbor said was fighting off the attacker when she suffered a medical emergency.
