In an absolutely wild and distressing moment that went largely missed because it occurred right after the 2024 presidential election, President Biden stumbled multiple times and even showed himself as needing help from First Lady Jill Biden while trying to trudge through the sand near his beach house in Delaware on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
The incident highlighted to many the failing health, physical and cognitive, of the 81-year-old president who the Democratic Party tried running for a second term despite his obvious failings and advanced age, a plan only backed out of after the American people got a clearer glimpse of his failings during his presidential debate in the summer of ’24 with now-President-elect Donald Trump.
In any case, video footage of the incident shows the elderly and outgoing commander-in-chief stumbling through the unstable sand outside his Rehoboth Beach beach house as he relaxed on yet another one of his many vacations, this one in the wake of his Vice President’s major presidential election defeat, and tried walking around but struggled to do so.
In the footage, the elderly president struggles to trudge through the deep sand, particularly with the uneven parts of it, and as he stumbled First Lady Jilly Biden leaned in and gripped his arm to keep his balance steadier. The two kept moving, with Biden trudging along with wobbly steps when trying to move faster, and reporters shouted questions at them as they did so.
President Biden, who was seen in the video footage wearing a somewhat anonymous outfit of a darker blue pair of jeans, a very dark sweater (either deep navy blue or bluish-black), and his characteristic vacation accessories of a dark ballcap and sunglasses, shouted only one word at the reporters as he kept trying to walk. He and Jill then retreated to a parking lot, away from the reporters.
The RNC Research X account, an account run by the Republican National Committee and which spent most of the Biden presidency finding characteristically entertaining and embarrassing video clips of him, posted the clip of the president struggling through the sand and captioned it, “Biden is currently battling the sand at his beach house in Delaware. (The sand is winning).” Watch Biden here:
A funny commenter on the RNC Research post about the incident joked that the Secret Service giving him a piggyback ride would have been less embarrassing than what happened, with Jill having to stop him from falling as he wobbled on the sand, writing, “I think SS giving him a piggyback ride would be less embarrassing tbh.”
Another commenter said, “That’s happening because he has an ego that can’t be argued with. And now that he’s no longer going to be destroying the country and stoking wars all over the world, I almost feel bad for him. Not her though, she’s still not helping him. I feel like she’s abusive in private. They deserve each other.”
Still another commenter on the RNC Research post wrote that Harris should have invoke the 25th Amendment given Biden’s struggles, saying, “Yea, nothing physically or mentally wrong with him is there? He should have been 25A last year but Harris couldn’t pull the trigger on that. Shoulda woulda, coulda”
