President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming Attorney General Pam Bondi recently endured an eventful Senate confirmation hearing, where numerous Democrats pressed her on how the Department of Justice would be run under her leadership.  In one instance during the questioning, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) lobbed a “gotcha” question at Bondi, attempting to corner her. However, Bondi quickly shut down the move.

Durbin dug up comments from Trump regarding the contested 2020 election, in which the former president allegedly urged Georgia voting officials to “find” enough votes for him to push him to victory in the battleground state. The conversation between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Been Raffensperger has continually been cited by Democrats as evidence that Trump tried to interfere with the election.

Asking Bondi about the prior statement from the incoming president, Durbin said, “He said to the GA Secretary of State, ‘find 11,780 votes.’”  Bondi confidently said, “Do you have the entire context of that call? I feel like it was longer, much longer than that and may be taken out of context.”  Durbin agreed that it was indeed a long call, urging her to listen to it.

In other comments during the hearing, Durbin tried to trap Bondi into conceding that Trump lost the 2020 election. Sen. Durbin asked her, “Are you prepared to say today, under oath, without reservation, that Donald Trump lost the presidential contest to Joe Biden in 2020?” She answered, “Ranking Member, Durbin. President. Biden is the President of the United States.”

She continued, “He was duly sworn in, and he is the President of the United States. There was a peaceful transition of power. President Trump left office and was overwhelmingly elected in 2024.”  Durbin further questioned her, “Do you have any doubts that Joe Biden had the majority of votes, electoral votes necessary to be elected president in 2020?”

Bondi replied, “You know, Senator, all I can tell you, as a prosecutor, is from my first-hand experience, and I accept the results. I accept, of course, that Joe Biden is President of the United States.”  Bondi explained that she observed horrible violations of election protocol while on the ground in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state with substantial influence over the election.

She said, “But what I can tell you is what I saw firsthand when I went to Pennsylvania as an advocate for the campaign. I was an advocate for the campaign, and I was on the ground in Pennsylvania, and I saw many things there.” Nonetheless, Bondi accepts what the results of the election were. “But do I accept the results? Of course, I do.”

However, she maintains her position that there were definite errors with how the 2020 election was carried out. “Do I agree with what happened, and I saw so much. No one from either side of the aisle should want there to be any issues with election integrity in our country, we should all want our elections to be free and fair and the rules and the laws to be followed.” Clearly dissatisfied with Bondi’s response, Durbin concluded, “I think that question deserves a yes or no. I think the length of your answer is an indication that you weren’t prepared to answer yes.”

Pam Bondi just refused to fall into the Democrat Senator’s trap of saying that Trump lost the 2020 election fairly. She knows it was rigged and stolen.
