In a press conference held on March 11, 2025, Karoline Leavit clashed with Associated Press reporter Josh Boak over Trump’s Trade policy. Boak began by presenting a false dichotomy that misrepresented the issue. He said that the President is a hypocrite because he promised to cut taxes but has also raised tariffs. He said that tariffs represent another form of taxation.
However, Karoline Leavvit fired back at the woke Associated Press reporter and shut him down. She reaffirmed the President’s commitment to cutting taxes and explained that tariffs represent a way to balance the playing field when it comes to trade. Online commentators took Leavitt’s side and mocked Baok for his insensitive interruptions.
The drama began when Boak asked Leavitt about Trump’s trade policy. He began, “When President Trump last addressed the BRT, when he was on the campaign trail, his big push was on tax cuts. He’s going there today as he’s proposing tax hikes in the form of tariffs. And I’m curious why he’s prioritizing that over the tax cuts?”
Leavitt began answering before he even finished his pointed question. The press secretary said He’s not doing that. He’s actually not implementing tax hikes. Tariffs are tax hikes on foreign countries that, again, have been ripping us off. Tariffs are a tax cut for the American people. And the president is a staunch advocate of tax cuts.”
She continued her answer by explaining how Trump’s campaign promises are being met. She added, “As you know, he campaigned on no taxes on tips, no taxes on overtime, no taxes on Social Security benefits. He is committed to all three of those things, and he expects Congress to pass them later this year.” However, Boak rudely interrupted with a snarky comment.
The journalist interjected with a snide response. Baok said, “I’m sorry. Have you ever paid a tariff? Because I have, you don’t get charged on foreign companies. They get charged on imports.” However, Leavitt kept going and bulldozed through the bitter journalist.
She concluded her remarks by expressing a hopeful vision for the future of the economy. Leavitt concluded, “And ultimately when we have fair and balanced trade, which the American people have not seen in decades. As I said at the beginning, revenues will stay here, wages will go up, and our country will be made wealthy again. And I think, think it’s insulting that you are trying to test my knowledge of economics and the decisions that this President has made. I now regret giving a question to the Associated Press.”

Social media users chimed in to support the dogged press secretary. One woman said, “Love her !!! I am so sick of these damn democrats constantly pushing their lunatic agenda!!!!” Another account replied, “The tariffs are really a simple negotiation tool: lower the tariffs against the United States’ companies, and the U.S. Tariffs on you will be lowered.”
