Things got quite entertaining when Rep. Ted Lieu and Secretary of State Marco Rubio sparred in hilarious fashion over Lieu’s claim that President Trump has poor cognitive health and has been falling asleep in public. Rubio showed the claim to be a total lie, and argued that, in reality, Trump is in tip-top mental and physical shape.
As background, President Trump has been posting about his health lately. “The results of my Physical Examination, taken at Walter Reed Military Medical Center, and just released, were extremely good. Unlike other U.S. Presidents, none of whom have ever taken an approved, high difficulty, Cognitive Test, I scored a perfect 30 out of 30, considered “extreme intelligence.” Are the Dumocrats really surprised? In fact, this is my fourth such test, all PERFECT or, 120 correct answers out of 120 questions asked! It is very rare that anyone gets a Perfect Score, especially when achieved four times in a row. All people running for President and Vice President should be forced to take high difficulty Cognitive Tests. Congress, and the Dumocrats, should demand it!” he said in one post on Truth Social, covering his cognitive health.
“Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House,” the president said about his physical health in another post on his Truth Social platform.
Such led to the fight between Lieu and Rubio during the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Wednesday, June 3. During it, the representative asked, “Secretary Rubio, have you been at more than one meeting where President Trump has fallen asleep?”
Firing back, Rubio said, “That’s false. That’s false. I’ve never seen him fall asleep. On the contrary, the guy doesn’t sleep, which is a big problem, because he calls me at two in the morning, he calls me at five in the morning, and you know, I like to sleep a little bit, maybe not 12 hours or at least six. So he works. The other day he was at the Oval Office in Saudi Arabia, 30 pm, 12:30am I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Lieu then played a video that he unconvincingly alleged showed the president sleeping as Rubio spoke, telling him, “Rubio, I’m going to show you in a moment a video that shows you just lied to Congress. Oh, okay. So this is a video of a cabinet meeting, literally from last month, where Donald Trump is sleeping while you’re talking.”
After the video finished playing, Rubio fired back that Lieu was lying to Congress and America, saying, “I’ve never been in any meeting where, and the things you’re showing me now, he was not falling asleep, and I think so. You’re lying again, you’re lying consistently”.

Lieu fired back, “You’re lying to Congress, Secretary Rubio. So, I’m going to show you another video in a moment, the president’s inability, the president’s inability to stay awake on the job has caused other countries to perceive him differently. They mock him, they see he is weak and he is feeble. This is a video of a French news channel talking about Donald Trump falling asleep at a Memorial Day ceremony.”
The two then continued arguing, with Secretary Rubio at one point laughing in Lieu’s face over his outright lies about Trump falling asleep in meetings. Watch them here:
