Things got wild on Wednesday, January 15, with Sen. Dick Durbin first going on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program to say he lives in fear of the idea that Pam Bondi, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be Attorney General, will use her power, if confirmed, to go on a campaign of retribution against the president-elect’s political enemies. Later, during the hearing, he tried attacking her and got destroyed.
His fearmongering on MSNBC came when “Morning Joe” co-host Jonathan Lemire said, “Let’s zero in on the hearing for attorney general nominee Pam Bondi, in particular, much has been made of Donald Trump’s wish for the department of justice to carry out a campaign of retribution against his political foes and the like. What sort of questions do you want to pose to her about that particular topic? How grave of a concern is it?”
Sen. Durbin, responding, first admitted that Ms. Bondi is quite qualified to be Attorney General, so the same attacks used against Hegseth can’t work against her. He said, admitting as much, “Well, it’s a very grave concern. And here’s the bottom line, Pam Bondi is eminently qualified as a lawyer to be the attorney general.”
Continuing, however, he argued that while Ms. Bondi has a lengthy legal resume, he doesn’t think that she will stand up to Trump as he wants her to, saying, “Ten years in Florida and her own private practice. I mean, she has the legal resume for the job. The question is, does she have the courage and the strength to say no to Donald Trump?”
Building on that,he noted that Trump has fired multiple AGs in the past, saying, “What happens to an attorney general under Donald Trump who says ‘no’? We have, unfortunately, a history to look to when it came to that situation. You had first Jeff Sessions, who was fired because he said ‘no’ to Donald Trump, and then Bill Barr, who was fired.”
Concluding, the leftist senator kept fear mongering about what the next Trump administration will look like, saying, “The question is whether Pam Bondi has courage to say to Donald Trump, ‘what you want to do is wrong, it’s illegal, it’s unconstitutional, you should not do it.’ Even if he doesn’t want to hear that conclusion.” Watch him here:
The spats between the two in the following hearing went about how one would expect. In one moment, described by a commenter as one in which “Pam Bondi just humiliated Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL),” Bondi wrecked Durbin when he tried taking a moment out of context to attack President-elect Donald Trump.
That came when Durbin said, “[President Trump] said to the Georgia Secretary of State, ‘find 11,780 votes.'” Bondi fired back, “Do you have the entire context of that call? I feel like it was much longer than that.” Durbin admitted, “It is. It was an hour long.” Bondi, rubbing in her humiliating verbal victory, said, “Right!” Watch that here:

Commenting on Durbin’s performance during the hearing, one poster on X said, “I believe Dick Durbin wins JACK ASS OF THE DAY after listening to his opening statement. He’s a Trump Hater. He seems to believe that Pam Bondi won’t be able to follow the law. He has condemned her entire career as though she was worthless. My opinion Mr Durbin is the Master of Worthless!”
Another said, “Sen. Dick Durbin takes cheap shots at Trump during the opening of Pam Bondi’s confirmation hearing. Durbin wrongly accuses Trump of weaponizing the DOJ during his first term. Everything Democrats in DC say is a lie. It’s all projection, all the time.”
