During a very unintentionally funny moment during the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Trump’s FBI Director nominee, Kash Patel, far-left Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) went on an absurd tirade against Kash Patel and in defense of the FBI, shrieking at him as she did so. Patel responded by brilliantly obliterating her.
That moment came when the Minnesota Democrat who is mainly known for her abrasive manner and failed presidential primary bid, went on a grandstanding rant in which she tried painting Patel as an obvious and dangerous radical who would be a disaster in charge of the FBI, taking old quotes out of context to do so. Patel stood her down and won the verbal exchange.
Klobuchar began her angry rant against Patel by quoting one of his old criticisms of the agency, one that much of the MAGA side of politics would agree with. She said, quoting Patel, “‘This is an agency with agents who have taken down terrorists, taken down bank robbers, taken down crime. And you wrote that the FBI has become so thoroughly compromised that it will remain a threat to the people unless drastic measures are taken.'”
The two then had an angry back-and-forth during which Patel was repeatedly interrupted by an increasingly angry Klobuchar. During the spat, she tried to insist that the FBI was well respected, doing so by pointing to the supposedly greatly increased number of FBI applications.
She said, making that point about FBI application numbers, “Do you know that under Chris Wray’s leadership… the applications to the FBI have, in fact, tripled?” Patel responded with a mic drop moment, saying, “The American public’s trust in it is at 40 percent. That’s an all-time low.”
The angry exchange continued to escalate when Klobuchar took one of Patel’s suggestions wildly out of context, mischaracterizing it and saying, “Did you say that the FBI headquarters should be shut down and reopened as a museum of the Deep State?” As she pressed him on that, her voice rose to the point of shrieking, leading to Chairman Grassley intervening and banding his gavel until she stopped shouting at the nominee.
Responding, Patel shut her down by noting what her shrieked accusations truly were, saying, “Simply this, if the best attacks on me are going to be false accusations and grotesque mischaracterizations, the only thing this body is doing is defeating the credibility of the men and women at the FBI.” Watch that here:
In another brilliant moment, when Klobuchar was taking him out of context to attack him, Patel fired back with, “That is a general statement and a mischaracterization of what I said, I encourage you to read the rest of the interview. This is why snippets of information are often misleading and detrimental to this committee’s advice and consent process.”
She then freaked out in response, snapping, “Well, if you consent, I would love to have five hours of questions and then I could read the whole transcript.” Cool as a cucumber, Patel shot back, “You’ve got two minutes.” Klobuchar, stunned into near-silence, simply said, “Wow.” Watch that here:
