Things got wild and awkward during a Dropkick Murphys concert in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 15, when the rock band’s woke lead singer, Ken Casey, had a total on-stage meltdown over one of the band’s fans in the concert audience showing his support for President Donald Trump by wearing a MAGA hat.
The incident began when Casey started shouting at the fan for holding up the black MAGA hat during the concert, snapping that the fan had been showing off the hat “all fucking night.” Notably, there has not yet been an incident of Casey screaming or snapping at a fan from the stage about wearing a pro-Democrat hat.
In any case, the rock band singer then started insinuating that support for President Donald Trump, who won a sweeping electoral victory and is far from being a Nazi, or someone who thinks the Nazis should have won the Second World War. Making that absurd and offensive insinuation, the singer snapped, “We’re gonna play a song about our grandparents and people who fought Nazis in the war and shit, if you could just shut the fuck up for five minutes.”
But, despite having told the Republican to “shut up” so the band could sing, Casey kept ranting and shouting about Republicans supposedly deciding to “all wear” a “Chinese fucking red” hat that is “dying their brains.” None of that is true, from the suggestion that Republican red shows support for communism to the idea that red dye from the hats can stain the brain.
Casey still wasn’t done, and started shouting about the color of the fan’s MAGA hat. The singer seemed particularly aggrieved that, rather than wearing the classic red MAGA hat or one of the later iterations of it, the fan was wearing the all-black version that Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and head of the Department of Government Efficiency, prefers. “You’ve got the black-on-black Elon Musk, true Nazi edition,” said Casey.
The singer still wasn’t done. In fact, continuing to rant and rave from the stage, he then went on to accuse the fan of being in a cult, claiming that showing support for the president is the same as being in a cult. He said, “Bro, listen, I admire your dedication, but I will ask everyone, if you’re in a room full of people and you want to know who’s in a cult, how do you know who’s in a cult?”
Adding to that, Casey then insisted that showing support for the president, who is only in power because of a major victory in the electoral college caused by a notable popular vote victory, was supporting the idea of rule by monarch in America. Still yelling at the fan, he said, “They’ve been holding up a fucking hat the whole night to represent a president. This is America. There’s no kings here!”

This isn’t the first time in the past month Casey has shouted at a fan for supporting Trump. Defending his having done so in Clearwater, Florida, for example, Casey said, “The reason we speak out, we don’t care if we lose fans, because when history is said and done, we want it known that the Dropkick Murphys stood with the people, we stood with the workers. It’s all a fucking scam, guys.”
