Gameplay and information about a new, previously unreported AAA Star Wars action-RPG have surfaced online. The third-person Star Wars RPG, reportedly codenamed Magellan, was in development at Echtra Games under Zynga before it was canned sometime around the studio’s closure in 2025.

On August 16, MP1st reported that it received never-before-seen gameplay footage of an early build of Magellan from an Echtra Games developer. In the gameplay shared by the outlet, you can see two different characters—a Twi’lek Jedi and a Mandalorian-like soldier—fighting stormtroopers, collecting loot, and exploring areas in third-person. At one point, the video explains that the game features “shoot and loot” gameplay. Development on Magellan reportedly began in early 2021.

Interestingly, this planned Star Wars action-RPG was intended to support online multiplayer, as seen in the gameplay clip shared by MP1st.

Players would apparently choose different classes, such as a Jedi, and use their abilities to fight off droids, troopers, and other Star Wars enemies. I also spotted the Jedi character seemingly using a blaster during the leaked gameplay. This likely ties into the loot-and-shoot aspect of Magellan. At another point, a character picks up “Booster Gear” from a fallen enemy and later searches a chest for loot. Perhaps you’d find new blasters and could equip them, even if you were playing as a lightsaber-wielding Jedi. Interesting.

MP1st reports that it also learned Magellan was supposed to include some sort of NPC bonding system that would see you developing relationships with characters as you went on missions and fought alongside them. The outlet reported that this cancelled Star Wars RPG was being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and the game was targeting a release on PS5, Xbox, and PC. However, after a shake-up at Zynga and Take-Two, the project was cancelled, and Echtra Games was closed in 2025.

You can add this cancelled Star Wars RPG to the pile of canceled Star Wars games we know about, including Ragtag, Respawn’s Mandalorian game, the infamous 1313, that cool-looking Darth Maul project, and Star Wars Battlefront III.
