America's most infamous college party hotspot is bracing for its annual beachfront bash.
Santa Barbara County in California has announced the temporary closure of oceanfront recreation areas in Isla Vista from Friday through Monday morning in anticipation of Deltopia.
The unsanctioned, student-organized part annually draws thousands of college-aged revelers to the seaside streets.
The closure, enacted under County Code Section 26-11, is intended to prevent the public health and safety issues seen during similar gatherings in the past, including 2009's 'Floatopia,' which overwhelmed emergency services and caused significant environmental damage along the coast near UC Santa Barbara.
Officials emphasized that the 2025 edition of Deltopia, set to begin Friday and continue through the weekend, is not an official or permitted event.
Typically centered along Isla Vista's Del Playa Drive, the massive street party has gained national attention over the years due to its history of violence and injuries.
Despite increased restrictions, the gathering has proven difficult to control. In 2014, tensions erupted into a riot after a UC Santa Barbara police officer was struck during an arrest.
Law enforcement officers were hit with bottles and rocks, resulting in more than 100 arrests, according to NPR.

Following a hiatus during the pandemic, Deltopia's return in 2022 led to a flood of medical emergencies, arrests and citations — so severe that officials declared it a 'multi-casualty incident.'
In 2023, the event continued to strain local resources, with 23 arrests, 151 citations, and dozens of emergency medical calls.
Despite its academic prestige — boasting competitive admissions and multiple Nobel Prize winners — UC Santa Barbara was recently ranked the top party school in the U.S. by the college-ranking site Niche, likely due in part to the notoriety of Deltopia.
In preparation for this year's event, Santa Barbara County and community organizations are stepping up safety efforts.
As reported by the Santa Barbara Independent, the Isla Vista Community Services District has launched a recovery center in partnership with the nonprofit Good Samaritan Shelter.
The center will provide food, water, and a safe place for attendees to rest. Additional support stations offering first aid and resources will be deployed throughout the area.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office will suspend its restorative justice program for 24 hours beginning at 6 am on Saturday.
During this period, anyone cited must appear in court—alternatives like classes or community service will not be available.

Meanwhile, police in neighboring Goleta will conduct a DUI checkpoint from 6 pm on Saturday to 2 am on Sunday.
First-time DUI convictions in California can carry penalties of up to $13,500 in fines and legal fees, as well as a suspended license, officials told Noozhawk.
To curb overcrowding and unauthorized access, UCSB's Transportation and Parking Services will prohibit overnight visitor parking from Friday through Monday.
As noted by the Independent, access to Isla Vista and El Colegio Road may be restricted to residents, and surrounding neighborhoods in Goleta will require parking permits.
Vehicles parked without proper permits between noon on Friday and 7 am on Sunday risk being towed.
'Remember, cooperation with law enforcement and emergency responders helps maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all,' Santa Barbara county officials said in a statement.
'Let's ensure that Deltopia remains a memorable experience for the right reasons, with everyone's well-being at the forefront.'
