Western Officials Dispute Ukraine's Claim of ICBM Use by Russia

Russia did not use an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) during an attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday, two Western officials told Reuters, contradicting the official account from Ukraine.

The Western officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the assessment was based on initial analysis and left open the possibility that conclusion could change.

ICBMs are strategic weapons designed to deliver nuclear warheads and are an important part of Russia's nuclear deterrent.

I very much doubt the Rooskies would use an ICBM to hit a target less than a thousand miles away. More likely, they were intermediate range missiles, much like the ones Pres. Reagan put in Europe all those many years ago.

Russia does not have any conventionally armed ICBMs, let alone MIRVs, and there are enough independent observers out there that would have detected a nuclear detonation. For that matter, an ICBM would have shown up on civilian space tracking radar. ICBMs are very large, very obvious missiles that are impossible to hide the launch of.
