This weekend, it emerged that Granger has been suffering from dementia and has been residing at a senior living facility — which neither she, her congressional office, nor House GOP leaders had disclosed to the public.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
This is a very long and detailed article on this subject and should get everybody up to speed on a lot of details.
The most important new facts (imho) are:
--She or her office never filed a former statement of leave --The article details efforts her office made to hide or obscure her condition
I do not blame her for this situation since she suffers from dementia.
I do blame her office and congressional leadership for this crazy (almost comical) coverup.
This is also a huge humilitation for North Texas and local mass media who failed to do their job.
It took an obscure local reporter (who did have an axe to grind--formerly ran against her in a primary) to do some digging.
While many early stories said she was in "memory care" that was technically not correct.
She lived and lives in a facility that had independent living, assisted living and memory care units and according to family lives in one of the independent living units.

Members of Congress have not deserved our trust or confidence for longer than I can remember. The current roster is populated by narcissistic people who are there solely to increase their net worth as fast as possible.
They are the ones to make the laws to correct (demented, incompetent old fossils from holding office) the abuses, but they never pass laws to oversee themselves.
It's a vicious cycle that apparently will never be corrected.

Ouch, that bad information can lead to a defamation lawsuit.
A reporter with an ax to grind making misstatements with malice.

The machine will make you, and it doesn’t have to break you, as long as your office and titles can still provide.
It’s not just the handlers and the party. It’s not dark, smoke-filled rooms. Most democrats didn’t care that it was Rice or Holder or Panetta or even Soros who was running the Whitehouse, as long as it is ‘our side’ in control somehow.
The idiocracy isn’t being defrauded of representation. The sheep go where they are led.

The article says her staff said her declining health made it difficult to travel to DC. Even if it is not dementia, the generic “declining health” is also a concern; she needs to represent her district.

I have been watching the mass media coverage on this story.
They are treading very carefully because of fear of lawsuits.
I think the guy is safe from litigation because in the senior housing industry a lot of folks get confused about what to call these large facilities that provide different services.
The original reporter did not say she lived in a memory care unit, he said she lived in a memory care facility.
You could call the facility an independent living facility, an assisted living facility and/or a memory care facility and not be technically lying.
Some other media outlets made the same mistake the original reporter did—probably out of sloppiness but perhaps also out of confusion about how these facilities operate.

I think it shows that much of the media on our side, is not honest as well, showing no interest in this story.
Citizen journalism is the future.

Her family has acknowledged she suffers from dementia.
Their issue with early coverage was they wanted to clarify the type of unit she lived in—the family said it was an independent living unit.

Good post—a key element of this story imho.

Why should this be a story have you seen who has been president the last 4 years?

To me one of the many elements of this highly complex story is that lying and deception appears to be considered normal and reasonable by Congressional offices and Congressional leadership.
We saw this with the Biden situation at the WH as well.
When did massive lying and coverups become OK?
I missed the memo.

cgbg @6: "You could call the facility an independent living facility, an assisted living facility and/or a memory care facility and not be technically lying."
For the last four years you could call the White House an independent living facility, an assisted living facility and/or a memory care facility and not be technically lying.

One reason I think this is a big story is that it proves that Congressional Republicans are just as willing to play “Weekend at Bernie’s” games as the WH.
Part of the insanity of this story is that senior Republican Congressional Republicans were attacking the White House for exactly the same behavior they were doing in this case.
Yikes.
P.S. It left Republican leadership wide open to blackmail and was super dumb—on top of everything else.
