Did you hear? Sunday apparently marked “Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day,” and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) wanted to make sure everyone knew to celebrate.
President Joe Biden’s lame duck team at HHS sent out a tweet celebrating the little-known ‘holiday’ that was immediately ripped by X users who proclaimed that Inauguration Day cannot come soon enough.
On Monday’s show, Megyn was joined by Link Lauren, influencer and former adviser to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Amala Ekpunobi, host of the Amala Ekpunobi Podcast, to discuss the blowback to the post and how it speaks to why Trump won the 2024 election.
The Post
Around noon on Sunday, the official HHS X account shared a graphic wishing everyone a “Happy Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day!” The post was captioned, “Today on Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day, everyone deserves to feel seen, respected and supported—no matter who they love. Create a world where everyone feels proud to be themselves!” It ended with a rainbow emoji.
The backlash to the tweet was swift, with everyone from Elon Musk and Republican lawmakers to MAGA voters voicing their displeasure and confusion. Megyn was among those who struggled to even understand what HHS wanted to celebrate. “I had to look up what the hell that is… but I guess [pansexual] is someone who is attracted to anyone, irrespective of gender,” she explained. “And then I had to Google: What is the difference between pansexual and bi?”
Megyn said that Google’s AI overview told her pansexual means “being attracted to people regardless of gender,” while bisexual means “being attracted to more than one specific gender, implying that gender might still play a role in attraction.”
That clarification (if you can even call it that) led to her next set of questions: “What in the actual eff, and how is our government tweeting out that today we have to celebrate the pansexuals and the equally ambiguous panromantics?”
A New Way Forward
Many of the comments on X centered around how people can’t wait for Trump and his HHS secretary nominee, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to get to work reforming the department. Lauren said that is the same message voters sent on November 5.
“With everything going on in the world, this is their priority [at Biden’s HHS]. But look at Rachel Levine. Look at Sam Brinton, the luggage thief,” Lauren said. “These are the people in the government, this is where their priorities lie, and this is why Trump won in a historic landslide with the popular vote, Electoral College, House, and Senate.”
As he explained, Trump ran against the ‘woke’ ideology that has seeped into many of these agencies and institutions and prevailed. “He said, ‘Enough with the woke nonsense,'” Lauren noted. “We are tired of the woke nonsense.”
