Donald Trump's on-again, off-again war in Iran has lurched its way through five months of intermittent strikes, negotiations, and rising energy prices.

After Iran interrupted a few days of relative calm by launching ballistic missiles at US troops in Jordan on Tuesday, Trump threatened to 'beat the f****** s***' out of the regime. 

Neither threats nor military action have not been enough to open the Strait of Hormuz, or secure a tangible guarantee that Iran will forsake its nuclear program.
