US comedian and television host Whoopi Goldberg is launching the All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN), a new 24/7 global women’s sports channel.
Confirmed: AWSN will be available in 65 countries with a US launch in the offing
The network will show action from properties such as the Uefa Women’s Nations League, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour and the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) 3×3 Women’s Series
Channel is currently distributed by Etisalat’s eLife streaming service in the Middle East, as well as by India’s JioTV and Philippines-based platform Jungo Pinoy Goldberg has partnered with Chicago-based hospital chain CommonSpirit to launch the network
During a recent appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Goldberg revealed that the idea to launch the AWSN came to her 16 years ago. She said that the network would show every sport that women are playing, with a mix of live and delayed broadcasts of games to be offered.
It joins other women’s sport focused broadcasting ventures including former ESPN executive Carol Stiff’s Women’s Sports Network and the Europe-based W-Sport, which is backed by Setanta Sports founder Mickey O’Rourke.
“Ever since I was a little kid, I always wanted to play sports,” Goldberg said on The Tonight Show. “My brother could play. He played baseball, he played softball, he played basketball, he played everything And they would say, ‘Oh, hi little girl.’
“It always pissed me off. So, for years, I’ve been talking to people and saying, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could go around the world, start getting young athletes in high school so that we can grow with them and grow up with them?”
“I feel like that will help us show that athletics — when they’re done brilliantly — it doesn’t matter who’s doing it. We don’t really have that relationship to women’s sports.”

How can she afford to do this, as a “struggling,” “middle class mom”?

Are girls sports new? All that seems to be new is letting boys play in them. Whoopi seems to support that.

Start with a simple question.
Carol, what's a woman?

Did she figure out what a woman was? I’d like to hear her definition. (not really).

Boys...girls...we all played baseball behind the school. Never thought of it as a boy girl thing....it was a kids thing.

I don’t even watch the big boys play their games anymore. I’m trying to recall the last time I watched any womens sports at all. It was probably tennis and maybe 20 years ago.

Oooh, what a check from Michael Smith, I mean Michelle Smith. It appears he, I mean she just broke Angelica Blossom’s arm and jaw.
Looks like Michael, I mean Michelle has just broken the University record by 35 points.
Yay!
Season tickets are going fast.

Considering the only workout she has ever done is getting in and out of her limo, seems like a strange thought

Appears Whoopsi needs a tax write-off.
I will give her kudos she’s one of the tiny few women putting up some of her own money for womens sports.
