One feature from Battlefield 2042 is worth carrying over to the next game, but it isn’t the plus system.
For as much flack as BF 2042 gets for setting the series back years, Portal was an excellent addition. EA deserves credit for introducing the creative space that allows players to relive some of the franchise’s most iconic maps, game modes, and weapons.
I would love to see Portal return and expanded upon in the upcoming Battlefield game.
On the other hand, the Specialist system, wingsuit, 128-player lobbies, end-of-round voice lines, freedom to choose any weapon, and vehicle call-in system directly oppose Battlefield’s identity and don’t belong in future games.
And even though it has its fair share of fans, the plus system should also be left behind.
Why the plus system doesn’t belong in new Battlefield game

The plus system allows you to swap out attachments on the fly during matches. For example, if you want to switch your optic out to suit a long-range engagement better, you can do so with a quick stick flick on the easy-to-use attachment wheel.
While useful, it’s too overpowered for players to change their attachments whenever they want without any repercussions. I don’t think it should be back at all, but if EA decides to add the plus system again, it needs to be nerfed.
One solution would be to add a cool-down timer so that you have to wait a brief period before you can use the attachment wheel again. The devs could also add an animation, meaning you have to wait for your operator to switch attachments before you can fire again.
The delay would allow you to fire first instead of being punished by a better-suited loadout for that gunfight just because they changed their attachments first.
EA could also restrict it to one use per life so players cannot abuse the mechanic and change attachments for every situation.
Thankfully, the devs created Battlefield Labs so players can test out every proposed new feature and provide feedback before they are finalized for the upcoming game.
If the plus system is added to the closed playtest in the future, I highly recommend that players consider all the potential cons before voting for its inclusion.
