Business Insider just published the following:

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/daughter-repeated-kindergarten-because-she-101201351.html

My daughter repeated kindergarten because she couldn’t read. I ended up sending both my kids to private school because I don’t trust the public system.

Susie Coughlin was concerned when her daughter struggled with reading skills at her public school.

The mom of two was disappointed her district didn’t teach phonics as part of its literacy program.

She switched her child to a Catholic school where the girl thrived after being taught phonics.

Just a W-A-G, but may have something to do with a certain Democrat core constituency.

My friend didn't know her daughter couldn't write her own name since printing became "the thing".

I taught my granddaughter writing, spelling and times tables. Found out the teachers no longer marked things wrong...so they didn't hurt the kids feelings.

cuz you cant fool, deceive or brainwash those who can easily read for themselves, and practice reading comprehension and critical thinking.

There are two theories and both are useful, although I think history/better leans towards phonics.

I grew up with see and say. “See Dick run, see Salley run.”

Remember the toy, See and say.

But all kids are different.

Both are useful, it is not one or the other which was done.

“Why have so many public schools stopped teaching phonics?”

The reason is VERY SIMPLE, but yet impossible for most conservatives and others to accept:

Democrat leaders and activists simply HATE US SOCIETY, particularly our wealth. They spent their college life hating this country and now have worked their way into positions of power to put an end to the US that we all grew up in.

But what the hell, Public School is FREE and that’s all that I care - my kids can deal with getting their lives screwed up by those institutions, I want the bigger house and camper, as I DESERVE IT. Right?

“..Just a W-A-G, but may have something to do with a certain Democrat core constituency.....”

^THIS^.
And yes, about 60 years too late in asking the question.
The evil ones destroy everything they touch...including education.
