Carl Jung called this tendency for extremes to eventually turn into their opposite over time, “enantiodromia,” a way of restoring balance. We see this constantly throughout fashion, aesthetic, culture, politics, and social views. If thin is in today, thick will be in tomorrow, and so it goes with just about everything.
