And, oddly, both wore similar strapless black gowns with their hair down as they posed on the carpet.

'There was no way Selena wanted an awkward photo and for everyone to write about it the next day,' a source told DailyMail.com.

'It was her night, she was a presenter at the Oscars for Emilia Perez, a film she is proud of, so she wanted the focus on that,' added the insider.

But the Good For You singer would have been fine saying hello to the Vogue supermodel.

'If they ran into each other, she would say hello of course, because Selena is a friendly person. She just wanted to avoid being photographed with her or near her because then 100 stories are born.

'Selena took a picture with Hailey in the past and it didn't feel right.'

Selena hit the after party in Beverly Hills looking incredible in black strapless gown with her hair down.

Hailey showed up to Vanity Fair's Oscars party without husband Justin on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old Rhode skincare founder commanded attention in a strapless black, ruched dress with a bow accent at the waist from Saint Laurent.

The runway regular confidently strutted the step-and-repeat, striking poses for cameras.

The mother-of-one — who shares six-month-old son Jack with Justin — looked statuesque in the classic look, which was vintage Yves Saint Laurent.

Her long and glossy brunette locks were parted down the middle and arranged in uniform waves that fell over one shoulder.

Justin's absence comes one day after he celebrated his 31st birthday, and follows weeks of fans expressing concern over his health.

Recent paparazzi images of the entertainer looking unusually tired and disheveled sparked online speculation that the former teen heartthrob could be using drugs.

But a rep for the Yummy hitmaker told TMZ in February, 'The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is absolutely not true.'

It was added that the father-of-one is 'in one of the best places in his life.'

Hailey appeared in the singer's birthday posts on Instagram over the weekend, showing that despite swirling rumors, their six-year marriage is intact.

The Canadian pop star even gave fans a glimpse at their baby boy, whose face they have kept private.

Justin recently supported Hailey at the launch of her pop-up Rhode store in West Hollywood.

Taking to social media after the event, he gushed, 'Congrats baby on your beautiful @rhode pop up.'

And on February 14 the singer used Instagram to mark Valentine's Day with loved-up snaps of the pair.

He wrote in a caption to his nearly 300 million followers: 'HAPPY VALENTINES DAY FROM THE BIEBERS.'

Conan O'Brien, 61, made his debut as Oscars host, after joking: 'I only agreed to host so that I could get invited.'

Ariana Grande opened the show with a flawless rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz.

It was swiftly followed by an appearance from her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, who performed the song Home from 1974's The Wiz starring Diana Ross.

The stars then delivered a duet as they powerfully belted out Defying Gravity.

The biggest award of the night, Best Picture, went to the independent film Anora.
