Fans of the highly-anticipated Wicked movie have been left torn over Ariana Grande's vocals in the blockbuster film ahead of its release on November 22.
The upcoming adaptation of the hit musical sees Ariana, 31, take on the role of Galinda Upland - also known as Glinda the Good Witch of the North - and both her and her costar, Cynthia Erivo, sing live in the film.
However, after viewing trailers and various clips online, many people have been commenting on the pop star's singing skills - and some fear it may not be up to Broadway standards.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: 'Ppl are like "why's this bad? She sounds great". She does sound good but she doesn’t sound like someone singing in a musical.'
'You need to have very clear diction. The words need to be so crisp, and you have to emote with every line. Real Broadway actresses don't sing like this,' they added.
A second person moaned: 'Her voice is so annoying,' and a third claimed: 'She sounds great, but it could've been so much better. There's such a lack of emotion and it sounds like she's whispering. What a shame.'
A fourth person posted: 'I tried to hold off on hating on wicked until i saw legit proof it was gonna suck but i genuinely dislike how floaty (??) and flouncy ari's voice sounds in this.
'I'm no vocal expert but the way she pronounces words as she’s singing HAS BEEN annoying imo (in my opinion),' they added, while someone else said: 'It's lacking that popUuularrrr thinness and softness, it's rusty and doesn't sound good at all.'

Another fan pointed out: 'I'm very much aware they sing live in the movie, but the studio version also needs to sound like she’s in character, and insane vocals truly don’t matter if she sounds like ariana grande instead of galinda.'
However, others were quick to praise Ariana's vocals after seeing snippets of the movie online as one person gushed: 'You can tell she's a theater kid because LISTEN TO THOSE VOCALSSSS.'
Another wrote: 'Ariana has an incredible vocal range,' while a third said: 'Ariana sounds amazing and I beg y’all to actually listen to the original Broadway performance of this by Kristin Chenoweth… who is the same Kristin that has been a mentor to Ariana for over a decade and helped her prep for the role. Y’all’s two cents is irrelevant!'
Someone else said: ''People so impressed with Popular, for good reason. But wait til they hear what Ariana Grande does with No One Mourns The Wicked. That’s where her vocal training and growth is going to shine brightest.'
A different person admitted: 'Hurt hurting over Twitter discourse on Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's vocals like they’re not objectively some of the best vocalists in today's industry.'
Another fan claimed: 'It's shocking to listen to Ariana Grande's music post WICKED because she really changed her entire vocals to craft a Glinda that is her mixed with what came before especially her rendition of "No One Mourns the Wicked", totally separate from her signature voice we all know.'
The comments come just one day after fans were left abuzz when the Into You hitmaker corrected the lyrics to a song in the much-loved musical.
The Instagram account for the film posted a video of Ariana singing Popular, along with accompanying lyrics flashing on screen.
One person suggested that Ariana's vocals could have been 'so much better' on X
One X user described Ariana and her costar, Cynthia Erivo, as 'some of the best vocalists'
One fan argued that she 'sounds amazing' and mentioned Ariana's mentor Kristin Chenoweth
Another person claimed that 'real Broadway actresses don't sing like this'
Ariana stars alongside Cynthia Erivo in the film, which was directed by Jon M. Chu
However, Ariana weighed in after she noticed an inaccuracy.
While the lyric video states Ariana is singing the word 'poise,' the songstress stated she was actually singing 'ploys.'
'It's “ploys” !!!!!! i love you @wickedmovie,' Ariana, who has been busy promoting the film as of late, commented along with several emojis.
Her correction confused several Wicked fans who initially believed the lyrics stated 'poise.'
While numerous agreed with Ariana, several others were taken off guard to learn the lyric was actually 'ploys.'
'Excuse me! I have been saying the wrong word for 20 years!?!' one stunned fan posted.
'wait its ploys????' one fan posted, while another commented: 'Omg i always thought it was poise too!'
The official soundtrack for Wicked will be available on November 22, the same day the film is released in movie theaters.
