Wisconsin woman arrested after breaking into a home and cooking herself a shrimp pasta dinner

A woman in Madison, Wisconsin, returned to her home around 10:30 on Tuesday night after being away all day, to find that the lights were on and a woman was walking around inside.

She called the Madison Police Department who arrived about 10 minutes later where they saw the suspect acting as if she owned the place.

She was there long enough to make herself a homecooked shrimp pasta dinner, which she apparently pilfered from the homeowner's groceries.

The department said in a statement,

Police arrived and observed through windows a female casually walking around the interior of the home. The female, later identified as Joanna K. Lee, came to the door in response to orders given by police.

When she answered the door she calmly told police a story about how she had met the homeowner at a coffee shop earlier that day where she had given her the house keys and permission to be there, even referring to the homeowner by her first name.

Police apparently didn't buy the burglar's story, as she was arrested on the spot. After seeing her mugshot, I can't imagine why they didn't believe her.

The homeowner said that she had never seen this woman before, and police later said that the suspect appeared to have found out her victim's name after snooping through her mail.

What’s the difference between a “burglar” and a “squatter” with full rights to tenancy?

Damn, she should’ve just done this in New York. If she did it there, I believe she would get to keep the house and the previous owner would be forced to pay her utility bills into perpetuity.

Probably the most concise answer as what the difference is. Depends on what law-enforcement does when they show up. If they do their job, then they are a burglar if they’re spineless weasels then it’s a tenant.

Ya’ think? Great detective work....

She’ll cook if you make sure you have groceries in the house for her!

So it’s all a crapshoot depending on which LEO arrives at your door?

And the homeowner would have to pay for the anguish and mental suffering of the woman who cooked her dinner at her new house.

I’m surprised she didn’t claim squatting and have the homeowner evicted for a year or two while she lived high on the hog and destroyed the place.
