President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Greece allegedly leaned on a MAGA donor to quietly send $100,000 to her American Express account just days before her Senate confirmation hearing, insisting the money move in a way that would leave no trail.

Kimberly Guilfoyle made the request to Eric Deters, a former Kentucky congressional candidate, over the encrypted app Signal on July 3, 2025, according to messages reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. Her confirmation hearing for the Athens post was set for July 9.

“It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express,” she wrote, per the Journal. She followed with a bill-payment PDF and a plea, the outlet reported: “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today.” (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Dem Candidate Awarded Soros-Linked Group Aimed At ‘Advancing Racial Justice’ With Contract)

Deters never sent the cash, telling Guilfoyle it would end his marriage, according to the Journal. The two had been trading messages for months, the outlet reported, with Deters offering as much as $1 million if Guilfoyle could win him the attention of the new administration on personal tax and legal matters. She agreed to press officials at the Justice Department and the IRS on his behalf and worked to book him an interview with Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson, the Journal reported.

Carlson told the Journal he had never heard of Deters. “A million dollars for a podcast appearance? Isn’t she the ambassador to Greece? This is completely nuts,” he said.

Guilfoyle repeatedly warned Deters to keep money talk off the record, the Journal reported. “Eric, I really wish you would stop papering all these things,” she wrote in one message, telling him elsewhere to call her on Signal instead.

Her attorney, Jesse Binnall, challenged the authenticity of the messages but offered no specifics, the Journal reported, saying she was owed money for speaking at events before her nomination. Deters countered that he owed her nothing.

The episode lands as Guilfoyle already faces scrutiny over separate conduct. Democratic lawmakers pressed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to examine her promotion of the Greek firm Aktor Group and her travel with its lobbyist, according to The Daily Wire. Democratic New York Rep. Gregory Meeks called her “unfit to represent the United States abroad” if the accounts hold up, the outlet reported.

The Senate confirmed Guilfoyle on Sept. 18, 2025, and she took up her post in November.
