Ferran Torres, who scored the winning goal in the 2026 World Cup final, said his decision to wear a President Donald Trump-inspired hat during Spain’s homecoming parade was “not about politics.”
Torres was asked about the hat during a Monday interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. He described wearing the Trump-inspired hat as a “funny moment.”
“At the game this year, President Trump was there. You were later seen wearing a red ‘Make Spain Great Again’ hat,” Collins said, according to a clip of her interview with Torres. “Where did you even get that hat from?”
“Yeah, it was a funny moment because it was not about politics,” Torres responded. “Because, honestly, I don’t know about politics. It was just to be able to see Spain again on the top, winning the World Cup. And yeah, it was just to have fun with my friends, with my family. And nothing about politics or nothing about yeah, this.”

In addition, Trump said the hat was a “nice tribute.”

Torres’ decision to wear the hat divided social media users, with some saying he was “mocking MAGA,” while others thought he was offering genuine support for Trump.
“He’s mocking MAGA and I LOVE IT!” one social media user wrote.
“FREAKING EPIC! Spain might be run by a socialist but PATRIOTS are still alive and well!” conservative commentator Eric Daugherty said.
“I think he’s just having fun [sic] congrats to him and Spain,” a third social media user added.
“I love how the lefties can’t handle it [sic] so they’re pretending he’s mocking trump [sic],” a fourth person said.
Torres scored the game-winning goal, helping Spain claim a 1-0 victory over Argentina during the World Cup final July 19. Spain also won the World Cup in 2010 over the Netherlands.
Torres’ contract with Spanish club FC Barcelona expires in June 2027, Forbes reported. French club Paris Saint-Germain has purportedly made Torres an offer ahead of his free agency, according to the outlet, which cited Marca, a daily Spanish newspaper.
