Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has responded to questions over whether The Elder Scrolls 6 could become an Xbox exclusive, offering praise for Bethesda’s long-awaited RPG instead.

The game’s eventual platforms remain one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding The Elder Scrolls 6, particularly as Xbox begins putting a renewed focus on exclusive games, such as the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day being a console exclusive.

Asked directly about the topic during an interview with the BBC at Gamescom, however, Sharma sidestepped the question.

“It’s a beautiful game”

Speaking about Xbox’s broader approach to exclusives, Sharma explained that the company still sees exclusive games as an important part of owning a platform.

“We are increasingly going to be one of the largest platforms in the world. Every platform needs some form of exclusive experiences and content,” she said.

“And so, what we’ve shared is Gears and Clockwork. We’re going to do the best we can to continue to do that, all in the context of the business being healthy, and so we have to balance that.”

When the conversation turned specifically to The Elder Scrolls 6 and whether making the game exclusive was a priority, Sharma smiled before offering a much shorter response.

“It’s a beautiful game,” she said.

While her answer doesn’t shed any new light on where The Elder Scrolls 6 will eventually be playable, Sharma has already had the opportunity to see Bethesda’s next RPG in action.

Earlier in August, the Xbox CEO revealed she had watched a live playthrough during a visit to Bethesda, praising the “scale and grandeur” of what she’d seen.

The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced with a brief teaser in 2018, years before Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax was completed in 2021.

Bethesda hasn’t confirmed a release date or platforms for the game.
