Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has described Xbox Helix as a “family of devices,” shedding more light on Microsoft’s mysterious new console.
While details surrounding Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox (codenamed Helix) remain scarce, we do know a few things about the upcoming console. Back in August, it was reported that the next Xbox is being built with backwards compatibility at its core, with a memo claiming that the system will support games from every Xbox generation.
We also know that the next-gen Xbox will be capable of playing PC games, with Microsoft looking to further bridge the gap between both systems. Now, during a town hall meeting with Xbox staff, CEO Asha Sharma revealed that the new Helix console will be part of a “family of devices.”

As reported by Windows Central, Sharma briefly mentioned Xbox Helix and explained that Microsoft will release the Gen-10 console alongside other devices as well.
“We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10. There is not one device that fits all. We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go,” said Sharma.
Quite what the “family of devices” entails remains to be seen, but the CEO’s acknowledgement that many players are “on the go” suggests that we’re getting another portable device.
PexelsSharma’s comments follow remarks from Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Hideaki Nishino, who said during a June 2026 Q&A that PlayStation 6 would go “beyond the living room.”
The Xbox CEO also noted that she is excited about Xbox Helix’s operating system, stating: “The operating system is starting to look really good. We’re very excited about this.” She also mentioned that Xbox will be partnering on certain things for the release as well.
“There are some things that we are the best in the world to manufacture, and there are other things that we will partner on. So, we will be sharing more about that as our plans develop.”
When we will get our hands on the next-gen Xbox remains to be seen, but it sounds like we could be in for a surprise.
