Xbox confirms GTA 6 won’t stream on PC

Following a report that Xbox secured exclusive streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6, possibly letting PC players stream it without owning a console, Xbox has clarified that this isn’t the case.

The Verge’s Tom Warren reported on October 6 that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees that Microsoft plans to do something “no other platform holder is doing” around GTA 6, which sources said is Xbox obtaining exclusive streaming rights to the game.

Warren speculated that this deal would also allow PC players to play GTA 6 without owning an Xbox Series X|S or PS5, streaming it through the Xbox Cloud Gaming Service instead.

A few hours later, Xbox CSO Matthew Ball denied the report through his personal X account.

Xbox denies it has exclusive GTA 6 streaming rights

“While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting,” he tweeted. “We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”

The CSO’s tweet plainly states that GTA 6 won’t stream on PC, so you’ll need a console to play it on November 19, but he only denied that the game will be “streaming exclusively.” It’s unclear what this entails fully at the time of writing.

Warren responded, saying, “It will be on Xbox Cloud Gaming,” but “the Xbox cloud streaming rights deal for GTA 6 appears to be more complicated than I originally reported.”

“I reported it would be available on Xbox Cloud Gaming, and you’d normally assume that means PC and web clients can access it,” he said in a separate tweet.

There’s no official word on when Grand Theft Auto 6 might arrive on PC, but if it follows the trend set by GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, don’t expect it any earlier than November 2027.
