Xenoblade Genesis has officially been revealed during the June 9 Nintendo Direct, giving Monolith Soft’s RPG franchise its next major entry on Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo announced the game during the showcase with a brief first look, confirming that Xenoblade Genesis will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The reveal was one of the biggest surprises from the presentation, with Nintendo describing it as “a new beginning for the series.”

The Xenoblade franchise has become one of Nintendo’s biggest RPG series over the last decade, with its mainline entries known for massive sci-fi fantasy worlds, long-form storytelling, and real-time combat. The most recent numbered entry, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, launched in 2022 before receiving its Future Redeemed expansion in 2023.

Details are still limited, but the first trailer appears to introduce a new cast and setting rather than directly following the original trilogy. One scene shown in Nintendo’s announcement features a red-haired character standing near a window before saying, “Wish me luck.”

Nintendo has not yet revealed specific gameplay details, combat changes, or a firm release date beyond 2027. However, the wording around the announcement suggests Genesis is being positioned as a fresh starting point for Xenoblade rather than simply Xenoblade Chronicles 4.

The timing also makes the reveal especially notable for longtime fans. Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed helped bring the story threads of the first three numbered entries together, leaving many players wondering where Monolith Soft would take the series next.

With Xenoblade Genesis now confirmed as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, the franchise is officially moving into Nintendo’s next console generation. More details are expected closer to its 2027 launch, including whether the game will retain the series’ MMO-inspired combat or introduce a major gameplay shake-up alongside its new beginning.
