Paramount could be preparing to turn one of TV’s biggest franchises into a video game, with Yellowstone reportedly high on its list of priorities as it looks to expand into the “Sheridanverse.”

Created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, Yellowstone has become one of the defining TV dramas of the past decade, spawning multiple successful spin-offs while building an enormous global audience.

Fans adore the lovable (and certainly hateable) characters, gripping stories, and Godfather-like themes, which arguably make it perfect for a video game.

This isn’t anything new for Paramount, which has already experimented with games based on Star Trek and SpongeBob SquarePants, but it now appears to have much bigger ambitions for Sheridan’s ever-expanding universe.

Paramount wants to turn Yellowstone into a game

During an interview with Polygon, Shawn Kittelsen, Head of Creative and Production at Paramount Games Studio, revealed that the company is actively looking toward Yellowstone and its spin-offs as future gaming opportunities.

“All of the Yellowstone and Yellowstone-adjacent titles, Landman, Tulsa King, these are all priorities for us,” explained Kittelsen.

He went on to stress that Paramount isn’t simply interested in creating games for the sake of capitalizing on recognizable brands, adding that they “are cultural stewards, and these stories, characters, and worlds mean something to the fans who invest so much of their time and money in them. We need to honor that relationship, or we will lose them.”

Kittelsen continued: “If we start like, willy-nilly licensing everything that we can and just to check boxes and fill the coffers, people will get wise to it, and we won’t actually see the success that we could. But if we build pillar by pillar, find the right partners, and make the right games for the audience, I think we can achieve massive success.”

Of course, at the moment, Paramount hasn’t announced anything officially, with no details as to what genre, style, or developer it’ll have. Still, an open-world experience in the style of Red Dead Redemption could be a natural fit for the series’ setting, or a more narrative-driven adventure like Mafia to focus on the Dutton family and their conflicts.

For now, though, it’s purely speculation. All we know is that Paramount has Yellowstone and the “Sheridanverse” firmly in its sights.
