'You are so desperate!' Explosive Brexit showdown erupts as GB News guest hits out at US tariffs: 'No one should have them'

A furious row has erupted on GB News as commentators Carole Malone and Jonathan Lis clashed over the impact of Brexit on the new US tariffs on the UK economy.

The heated exchange centred on the Trump administration's announcement of a 10 per cent tariff on all UK exports to the United States.

Malone insisted the tariffs represented "a huge advantage" for post-Brexit Britain, while Lis dismissed her claims as bearing "no correspondence to reality".

The tariffs, set to come into effect from April 5, will see UK goods facing a 10 per cent levy when entering the US market, where the EU are receiving a much higher 20 per cent levy.

Speaking to GB News, Malone said: "I just think this is a huge advantage for us.

"I'm not sure Starmer has got the wit to deal with this the way they should, but it is a huge advantage for us. And we could negotiate a trade deal right now with Trump."

Lis responded: "Nothing you said right now bears any correspondence to reality. The reality when you said when you said thank God for Brexit, that was a really interesting Freudian slip that you never thought you'd have to say that on television.

"That's because there are no there have not been any Brexit dividends and there will not be any Brexit dividends.

GB News host Nana Akua said: "Let's just put the facts out there, the EU got a 20 per cent tariff. The fact that we are not part of the EU means that our tariff is half of that."

Lis furiously retaliated: "No one should have got any tariffs that is the point. Even with that borne in mind, it's still vastly outweighed by the loss that we've had by severing major links in the market with our region, because we don't sell that much to the United States.

Malone fumed: "We exported last year £187billion worth of goods. They exported £115bn to us. That's £300bn worth of trade. How on earth can you say we don't sell?"

Lis, shaking his head, responded: "Obviously we trade lot with them. But these tariffs are being calculated based on surpluses. Look at the the graph that they published last night.

"Actually they came up with these incredibly weird figures about the tariffs they were going to put in other countries.

"Someone realised that the way they worked that out was by some completely inane and useless mathematical formula."

Malone interrupted: "This is just boring."

He added: " This is not a Brexit premium or dividend. This is this is going to decimate industries that export to the United States.

"And you can't even you can't even find it in yourself. To condemn something is going to materially harm the United States."

Nana dismissed: "You are desperate aren't you."

Malone agreed: "Pitiful. So we should we shouldn't roll over. So what you're saying is we should endanger the £300bn worth of trade that keeps this country going.

"We should endanger that and all the livelihoods of those people just to say 'stick it' to Trump?"
