You can now play PS5 games on Steam Deck thanks to new cloud streaming app

Whether you’re lacking a TV or larger screen, or just a PlayStation in general, it can be pretty tricky to play your PS5 games. Well, if you have a Steam Deck, Steam Machine, or Linux, that problems about to go away.

There are so many platforms out there right now. If you want to play absolutely everything, you’ll need tons of different consoles, from an Xbox to a PlayStation, and don’t forget the PC that needs to be powerful enough to run everything. Then you’ll want a handheld to run those PC games. But what if you can’t get a PlayStation or want to play their games on the go?

Well, a brand new app has just been released to help solve that problem, allowing you to play PS5 games without even owning the console on your Steam Deck, Steam Machine, or Linux.

New app lets you play PS5 games without the console

Called Asobi: Remote Play, the app is basically a way to stream select PlayStation games to your Steam Deck, Steam Machine, or Linux. Essentially, it will remotely stream the PS4 and PS5 console complete with full controller support and optional cloud-streaming compatibility. It’s important to note that keyboard and mouse aren’t supported here.

Even though it does have the ability to stream PS4 and PS5 consoles, you can only play select PS5 games on it, though those ‘select games’ include 3,970 titles so you’re still pretty spoilt for choice. Naturally, you need a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription to stream the games through the cloud.

So, if you have a selection of PlayStation games you’ve been dying to play but don’t have a console to play them on, you’ll want to grab the Asobi: Remote Play app.

It’s worth noting that the app is currently in its playtest phase, which you can register for on Steam, with a release date that just says “coming soon,” so hopefully it’ll release in time for some epic upcoming PlayStation games this year, like Wolverine.
