You’ll Never Guess Who Was Behind the Brazen Theft of a Knicks-Themes Trash Can in NYC

The woman caught on camera emptying a Knicks-themed public trash can during the team’s championship parade and walking away with it has been identified – and she is straight out of central casting.

The Perp

The perpetrator is 40-year-old Angie Báez, and The New York Post reported that she was fired from her job at JPMorgan after the video of her dirty deed went viral over the weekend. Watch:

According to Báez’s LinkedIn profile, she was promoted to “executive director of community and industry engagement for card and connected commerce” at JPMorgan Chase more than a year ago. Prior to that, she held an array of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” roles, including one at New York-based review website The Infatuation, which was acquired by Chase.

In a bio on The Infatuation’s website, Báez is described as someone whose “dedication to making a positive impact shines through in every aspect of her work.” It goes on to say her “efforts have helped position [The Infatuation] as a trailblazer in the pursuit of a more equitable and relatable food industry,” making her one of the “brightest voices” in the space.

That same bio described Báez as “a vibrant mosaic of Dominican heritage, Bronx roots, and a passion for storytelling, creativity, and culture.” The Post reported she also appears to have co-founded a “queer and black, indigenous and people of color-owned talent agency” called Same Page Co. that is “focused on increasing representation and equity in media and industry.”

The Fallout

Báez and Same Page Co. did not respond to The Post’s request for comment. And while sources told the outlet that she attended the parade in her personal capacity, her bizarre behavior apparently went too far for JPMorgan. A spokesperson told The Post, “This employee is no longer with the company.”

“Now she is unemployed because she is a classless thief,” Megyn said on Wednesday’s edition of The Megyn Kelly Show. “This is a made-up profession. Is anybody surprised she was idle and had nothing better to do than walk around the streets of New York stealing?”

Clips that made the rounds on social media showed Báez dressed in Knicks gear, dumping the contents of a limited-edition blue-and-orange-painted trash can onto a Manhattan sidewalk before walking off with it. Additional footage later showed her riding the subway with the stolen bin.

Megyn’s guest, Chamath Palihapitya, joked that, if nothing else, Báez proved to be a very ineffective thief. “She is a really terrible crook… I hate the Knicks… but if I was a New York Knicks fan and… they had no chance of winning ever, and then they win, obviously, I would have been shocked too. Maybe I would have tried to steal a garbage can in my twenties. But I would have done it under the cover of darkness. I mean, this is in broad daylight, somebody is filming it, then they are taking pictures of her on the subway with it,” he said.

To that point, New York City Department of Sanitation confirmed on X Wednesday that they had recovered the stolen receptacle, which means Báez is now jobless and trash can-less.

“Who steals the trash can? I mean, how much of a lowlife do you have to be to pick up a full trash can, dump all of the trash on the sidewalk of the city you’re supposed to be celebrating, and then steal [it],” Megyn concluded. “She is too stupid to work for JPMorgan.”
