'YOU'RE causing division!' Patriotic Britons hit back at Labour minister who branded Union Jacks 'intimidating'

Writing in the Barnet Post, the minister said while she was "proud" to fly the flag during the World Cup, now the event had concluded the Union Jack was a "source of division and intimidation".

Jack Miller, 51, and his wife Deborah, took responsibility for raising the flags and have now hit back at Mrs Sackman's comments.

Mrs Miller told GB News: "I think that comment itself is actually causing division, and it's divisive. We just we just want to live in peace.

"We just want to be. We're proud Jews. What's wrong with the flag?"

Mrs Sackman claimed she had received many complaints from residents describing the flags as "unsettling, intimidating and othering".

But Mrs Miller said she was unconvinced anyone had actually complained.

She said: "I haven't heard any sound of that. We've had people all the time saying: 'Oh, wow, they heard that we put the flags up. Good for you. Well done."

The couple also said Jewish Britons were proud to show their heritage by flying the flag.

Mr Miller said: "I think Jewish people in the country are proud of their British heritage. In synagogues on the Saturday morning service up and down the country, we have a special prayer for the country where we pray for the Royal Family, the King, the Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the military.

"And we're proud to be part of this country. And we're proud of the morals this nation has always had."

Mr Miller also vowed to put new flags up if any were taken down by the council, adding that his team of "flag ninjas" were already prepared.

A Barnet Council spokesman said: "The council celebrates with pride our nation's flag, flying the Union flag outside the council's offices in Colindale and above Hendon Town Hall every day.

"However, the council does not fly flags from its lampposts because they are not designed to hold them safely.

"While the council’s policy has always been to remove flags from council property where there are safety concerns, the council will not direct scarce public resources towards removing Union or English flags from lamp posts unless required to do so for health and safety reasons.

"Where removal is necessary, it will be undertaken at a time that represents value for money, such as alongside routine lamppost maintenance.

"There is also a safety concern for individuals climbing lampposts to display flags, and we must ensure road markings remain clear and visible for all road users, particularly those with visual impairments."

Mrs Sackman's Golders Green seat was shaken by a series of antisemitic attacks earlier this year, with Mrs Miller admitting the country had fundamentally changed.

"I feel like the country is really - it's a horrible thing to say, but it's fallen. It has. It's not the United Kingdom that I grew up in as a child," she said.

"Everyone's so worried about offending others that they will rather throw away what they've got."

The couple's words came hours before Britain was revealed to have recorded the biggest rise in antisemitic incidents of any country with a major Jewish population outside Israel.

A new report from the J7 Large Communities' Task Force Against Antisemitism found that 2025 had been the deadliest year for Jews living outside Israel in more than three decades.
