(LifeSiteNews) — Twelve policemen were injured while defending pro-lifers from attacks by radical leftists in Germany.
On August 15, around 20 to 30 pro-lifers from the German TFP (Tradition, Family, Property) gathered in the city of Göttingen for a “Public Rosary Against Abortion.” The event featured speeches as well as the recitation of the rosary.
Left-wing counter-protestors showed up and surrounded the pro-life rally. Twelve police officers suffered minor injuries while preventing the counter-demonstrators from getting to the pro-life activists.
As soon as the pro-life rally began, the pro-abortion activists started to disrupt the event by heckling and playing loud music. Police officers formed a human barrier around the pro-lifers to protect them during the rally.
According to photos provided by the TFP, the protesters held up signs like “Gay Communism now” and “Make feminism a threat.” The protesters displayed a Green Party flag and a bicycle branded with the logo of The Left Party. They also threw objects towards the pro-life rally, including nails.
The situation escalated when the pro-life protesters began to leave the scene. As they left the premises under police escort to head to their vehicles, several of the pro-abortion protesters tried to break through the police barrier. They tried using force to get past the police officers, but were ultimately prevented from doing so.
The TFP reports that police had to secure entrances, exits, and stairwells of the garage where the pro-lifers had parked their cars. The police then escorted the convoy of pro-lifers out of the city.
Authorities said they currently have no information regarding possible injuries among participants at the protests. According to the TFP, none of the pro-lifers were hurt.
According to a report by the Göttinger Tagesblatt, the 12 policemen suffered minor injuries from pepper spray used by their colleagues against the aggressive pro-abortion protesters.
The TFP reacted to the attacks in a statement: “Even as left-wing violence and terrorism are on the rise and radical leftists try to block our work and silence us, we will not stop.”
“We are fighting against the terrible sin of abortion,” the group continued. “Every day, thousands of innocent children are murdered in the womb. It has become clear that abortion activists are targeting defenders of life with the same ruthlessness with which they treat the unborn.”
“But we will not be defeated. We defend ourselves – because so many children are defenseless – against the brutality of abortion.”
“We will not be silenced. We will not let our voices be taken away – precisely because the children are being silenced and their voices taken away. We will continue until the terrible sin of abortion is completely ended!”
“We are not afraid to expose ourselves to potential violence. We will not be intimidated, and we have already planned another demonstration for the coming weeks!” the TFP concluded.
