The 2026 College Football Playoff will once again feature 12 teams.
Just like in 2025, the four highest-ranked teams overall in the final selection committee rankings earn the top four seeds and first-round byes, regardless of whether they won a conference title. The remaining playoff teams will then be seeded based entirely on the final CFP rankings.
The final automatic bid (usually the 12th seed) will go to the highest-ranked team from one of the Group of 6 conferences (American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, Pac-12, or Sun Belt), regardless of whether it won its conference championship.
Let's take a look at the odds to make the College Football Playoff as of Oct. 18 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Here's what to know about this oddsboard:
Miami On Top: A hectic weekend in college football gave this oddsboard a good rattle. Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana, Alabama and Texas — five of the top 10 teams — all lost. Of that bunch, the ugliest losses belonged to the Bulldogs and Longhorns, who both fell at home to unranked opponents. As for the Irish, they lost on the road to a top-10 BYU squad, Indiana lost at home to a top-10 Ohio State team, and Bama lost on the road to ranked Tennessee. However, that BYU game was Notre Dame's first matchup with a ranked opponent this season. With that, the Irish slipped to -1000 to make the Playoff, after sitting at -3000 a week ago. UGA fell from -2500 to -1100, Indiana moved from -800 to -700, Alabama went from -700 to -250, and Texas fell from -450 to +110. Atop the board now is Miami, which was at -1500 last week and is now at -2500.
West Coast Elite: Are BYU, UCLA and Utah the real deal? As mentioned, the 6-0 Cougars just earned arguably the biggest win in program history, taking down No. 2 Notre Dame on Saturday night in Provo. They are now -140 to make the CFP for the first time in program history. The Bruins, under first-year head coach Bob Chesney, are also 6-0, and in Week 6, beat Oregon in Eugene, 17-15. That's a big win. UCLA then beat Wisconsin in Week 7, but its odds still moved from +105 to +134 this week. As for Utah, it is 6-0 and has scored at least 27 points in each of those games. It has ranked matchups with Houston and BYU over the next four weeks, but both are at home.
