ANN ARBOR, MI — As the heated race for the open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan entered its final weeks, Democratic candidate Abdul Al-Sayed declared a fatwa on any journalists who ask questions about his support for terrorism.

Al-Sayed, a controversial candidate under fire for his views on a wide range of issues, issued the fatwa and wanted that jihad might be necessary to eliminate any infidels in the media who insisted on digging into his support of Islamic extremists.

"May Allah grant us victory against these infidels," Al-Sayed told his supporters at a campaign rally on Friday. "I am tired of all these journalists asking questions about my support for terrorists. I hereby issue a fatwa against them and call for all Muslims to hold them accountable. Further questions about my views on the intifada and jihad against infidels in the U.S. and around the world will be met with swift consequences. Inshallah."

In a video statement released by his campaign, Al-Sayed appeared wearing fatigues and sitting in a cave with an AK-47 propped against the wall behind him. "This is your final warning," he said in the video. "Do not ask me any more questions about terrorism. Or my connection with Hasan Piker. Or what I think about 9/11. Or Hamas. Those topics are off-limits from now on. You have been warned. Failure to heed my words will have dire ramifications. Allahu Akbar!"

At publishing time, the Al-Sayed campaign had issued a follow-up statement clarifying that his statement should not be taken as a terrorist threat and that any reporter who did so would be held liable for punishment under Sharia law.
