Ivanna Ortiz wanted to kill Rhianna when she allegedly sprayed bullets into the singer’s multi-million-dollar LA mansion and a trailer parked in the home’s driveway, according to prosecutors.
“This is a person who wanted to kill Rhianna. Everyone else was collateral damage,” deputy district attorney Alexander Bott told reporters outside a downtown courtroom Wednesday morning after Ortiz’s grand jury indictment was unsealed.
Ortiz’s indictment included 10 upgraded charges from assault with a semi automatic weapon to assault with an assault weapon.
The 36-year-old allegedly obtained the assault weapon used in the crime in Florida where she had it registered, according to Bott.
Ortiz appeared Wednesday in a yellow jumpsuit, her hands shackled and long blond bangs framing her face, and pleaded not guilty to all charges through her attorney.
Her bail was raised to $2.65 million. She is due back in court Oct. 29 and responded “yes” when asked if she agreed to the date.
The unsealing followed four months of delays after a judge raised concerns about Ortiz’s mental competency.
Ortiz is accused of shooting up Rihanna’s home with a high-powered rifle from her Tesla March 8.
Bullets also hit an Airstream trailer in the driveway Rihanna and her husband A$AP Rocky were inside at the time, according to LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.
The couple’s three children — RZA, Riot and Rocky, ages 4, 3 and 1 — were inside the main home with Rihanna’s mother at the time of the shooting.
Police said Ortiz, the sole occupant of the vehicle, fled the area but was stopped about three miles away during a traffic stop in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Sherman Oaks.
Investigators later recovered an assault-style rifle from the vehicle linked to the suspect, officials said.
Ortiz was found with ammunition, a disguise, was caught on camera, planned the crime, and fired 20 rounds toward the home with children present, according to prosecutor Alexander Bott.
The shooting rattled the normally quiet celebrity enclave, an exclusive neighborhood packed with multimillion-dollar estates and tight private security. Rihanna and her family fled the mansion and got on a private jet and left LA in the aftermath.
The accused shooter posted a string of unhinged videos that appeared to offer a bizarre motive for the attack.
Ortiz claimed Rhianna was “stealing” from her, was “jealous” of her and was a “witch” with a “devil’s face” in a series of clips on her YouTube channel.
Ortiz’s charges include attempted murder with special allegations, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm (with special allegations) and three counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling/vehicle.
The alleged shooter’s bail has been set at just over $1.8 million. She faces life in prison if convicted on all charges according to Hochman.
