Royel Otis has swept the 2024 Aria award nominations, with the Sydney guitar duo up for eight prizes, with international heavy-hitters Dom Dolla, Kylie Minogue and Angie McMahon shortlisted in five categories.

Comprised of guitarist Royel Maddell and vocalist Otis Pavlovic, Royel Otis received most of their nods for their debut album, Pratts & Pain, which has them up for album of the year and best group, alongside four other awards.

The indie rock album debuted at No 1 on the Aria Australian albums chart in February, after the Grammys recognised the pair as artists to watch in 2024, alongside the likes of Chappell Roan and Teezo Touchdown.

Their viral cover of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder On The Dancefloor for Triple J’s Like A Version is also nominated for song of the year, up against G Flip’s The Worst Person Alive and Got Me Started from Troye Sivan.

Also up for song of the year is Dom Dolla’s global hit Saving Up, which took out third place in 2023’s Triple J Hottest 100 and has delivered the Melbourne-via-Darwin producer six nominations, including best solo artist and best dance/electronic release.

The DJ is favourite for the dance category, having won in 2020 for San Frandisco and in 2023 for Rhyme Dust with MK, which followed Saving Up on the 2023 Hottest 100 to take fourth place.

Minogue has also returned to the Arias with her comeback album, Tension, after winning a Grammy for its lead single, Padam Padam.

Tension has Minogue in the running for five awards including album of the year, song of the year and best solo artist, ahead of the release of her next studio album, Tension II, on 18 October, and her biggest international tour in a decade in 2025.

Melbourne singer-songwriter Angie McMahon rounds out the top nominees, bagging five nominations including album of the year for her 2023 release Light, Dark, Light Again.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on 20 November, where Missy Higgins will be inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame, two decades after the release of her debut album, The Sound of White.

The ceremony will be streamed live on Stan and broadcast later on Channel Nine.
