The People’s Liberation Army has launched joint exercises around Taiwan since Tuesday, marking Beijing’s latest warning to the “ the separatist forces” in the island.
The PLA’s Eastern Theatre has conducted patrols and exercised air and land strikes and controls of key passages to test the joint combat readiness of the troops, according to Colonel Shi Yi.
Beijing views Taiwan as part of China to be reunited, by force if necessary. Most countries, including the US, do not recognise Taiwan as independent. But US is opposed any attempt to take the island by force and is committed to supplying weapons to the self-ruled island.
